How bad is the lack of responsibilitarianism\libertarianism in the Israeli Charedi community?

Well, I just learned a certain major Israeli internet filtering service blocks news websites which criticize Charedi politicians “excessively” (and they have “high standards”, believe me). Other filtering companies might be doing the same.

Got that? They don’t just block women’s images or gambling. They block out all political change, as well, since the Gedolim are necessarily supportive of all Charedi politicians. Not China, or at the state’s behest.

I don’t have a problem with private business decisions. Let them go bankrupt. My point is this doesn’t hurt them, perhaps it even helps them. That’s a reflection of us.

OK, I mean besides the whole contradiction of seeking “some” liberty: “Medinat Cherut”, (not to mention the foreign adventurism, etc.)…

Read this, from the introduction to their platform:

אין זהות יהודית ללא חירות, ואין חירות דרה יחד עם כפייה. הבשורה היהודית השלמה לא נמצאת בימין או בשמאל, אצל הדתיים או החילונים – היא נמצאת בכל חלקי העם ששב למולדתו ומתוך כך שב אל ההיסטוריה. לכן, אנו חותרים להעצמת החירות ולמתן האפשרות שתתפתח באופן שטבעי לנו. כל נסיון כפייה בתחום הזהות יעכב את תהליך השיבה אל עצמנו.

Since this psychologism is the strongest reason they can muster, this means all we need is for matters to appear to have improved to a degree for everyone (or, rather, one tyrant speaking for everyone) to say: That’s it. We discovered the right recipe, and everything should be frozen as is by the state.

Jeremiah 44:15-20:

ויענו את ירמיהו כל האנשים הידעים כי מקטרות נשיהם לאלהים אחרים וכל הנשים העמדות קהל גדול וכל העם הישבים בארץ מצרים בפתרוס לאמר.
הדבר אשר דברת אלינו בשם השם איננו שמעים אליך.
כי עשה נעשה את כל הדבר אשר יצא מפינו לקטר למלכת השמים והסיך לה נסכים כאשר עשינו אנחנו ואבתינו מלכינו ושרינו בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם ונשבע לחם ונהיה טובים ורעה לא ראינו.
ומן אז חדלנו לקטר למלכת השמים והסך לה נסכים חסרנו כל ובחרב וברעב תמנו.
וכי אנחנו מקטרים למלכת השמים ולהסך לה נסכים המבלעדי אנשינו עשינו לה כונים להעצבה והסך לה נסכים.

When we try to convert nominally “Observant” Jews to observance, they say all the same things:

• קהל גדול… לאמר: The many make the right.
• וכל הנשים: Women are supposed to possess unfailing intuition as to Hashem’s will.
• בשם השם: We deny the very sources, or interpret them differently.
• אשר יצא מפינו: We cannot lose face now.
• אנחנו ואבתינו: This is clear Masores.
• מלכינו ושרינו: The state decreed so. Do you promote chaos and treason?
• בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם: It’s the local Minhag everywhere.
• ורעה לא ראינו, ומן אז חדלנו לקטר למלכת השמים… חסרנו כל ובחרב וברעב תמנו: Those who vote for Shas\Gimmel are blessed; those who uncover their hair at home are “cursed”. Etc.
• המבלעדי אנשינו עשינו: We follow God-given hierarchy and leadership.

Note well the careful language used b the Shulchan Aruch at the end of Hilchos Yom Tov:

חייבים ב”ד להעמיד שוטרים ברגלים, שיהיו משוטטים ומחפשים בגנות ובפרדסים ועל הנהרות שלא יתקבצו שם לאכול ולשתות אנשים ונשים, ויבואו לידי עבירה, וכן יזהירו בדבר זה לכל העם, שלא יתערבו אנשים ונשים בבתיהם בשמחה ולא ימשכו ביין, שמא יבואו לידי עבירה, אלא יהיו כולם קדושים.

They “search” public property but only “ensure” regarding private property.

In answer we just quoted Mishna Sotah 3:4:

רבי יהושע אומר, רוצה אשה בקב ותפלות מתשעה קבין ופרישות. הוא היה אומר, חסיד שוטה, ורשע ערום, ואשה פרושה, ומכות פרושין, הרי אלו מכלי עולם.

But as a reader noted, the Chassidic Cursedian conception of sexuality (especially among certain sects) is well-known already. My point, instead, was that Gerrer relative wealth and material comfort doesn’t overcome the lack of other things for women.

Even if the innocent girls don’t know what goes on, their fathers do. Even Lavan Harasha cared about his daughters’ happiness:

P.S. This was inspired by someone telling me Gur forbids hugs and kisses even between male family members or male friends (not that Gerrer Chassidim are alone, sadly), contra recent Parshiyos:

“ויפל על צוארי בנימן אחיו ויבך ובנימן בכה על צואריו. וינשק לכל אחיו ויבך עלהם… וירא אליו ויפל על צואריו ויבך על צואריו עוד”.
