Alongside the state’s mass infantilization of society, in thought and deed, and the artificial extension of childhood through child labor laws, and the like, we also labor under the romanticization of childhood and its toys.
I say, the shorter childhood lasts, the better. Life is short enough, as it is.
But don’t cut it short, either.
Gemara B.B. 21a, in another instruction from Chazal we violate: אמר ליה רב לרב שמואל בר שילת עד שית לא תקביל מכאן ואילך קביל ואספי ליה כתורא.
