Awareness, by Miriam Adahan (Copright 1994, expanded edition, Feldheim 2003), p. 79:
While “liberalism” has often stood for anti-Torah attitudes, a certain degree of open-mindedness is necessary. For example, just a few years ago, the subject of learning disabilities was practically taboo in certain religious circles. It was only when a few caring individuals had the courage to break through the rigid mental barriers of certain authority figures that the problem was recognized as very real and very serious. Now, thousands of children are able to learn, thanks to new methods introduced into the yeshivah system. Without these programs, those children were doomed to a life filled with rage, shame, and despair.
Adahan, in her circumspect way, is cutting; I’ll let you unpeel the euphemisms above.
