Meretz and co. often complain of “unfair competition” by less democratic parties that send the same people to the Knesset all the time.
Since, there are no (genuine) internal primaries, in, say the Charedi parties, veteran Knesset members learn to work the system to their advantage (and perhaps even game the system) far better than their fresh colleagues armed with nothing more than a beginner’s understanding of the legion internal rules and regulations of the Knesset and a shock of beautiful young hair.
I’m no wonk, but if we take these self-sacrificing democrats at their word, this is actually a case for scrapping democracy altogether and restoring a permanent monarchy: כל התחלות קשות.
