A meme still goes around:
“We have two memorial days; one to remind us of the cost of having a state, and the other to remind us of the cost of not having a state.”
This is misguided on every level.
- Having a state is not a home economics decision of cost/benefit analysis, but a Torah question.
- How can anyone who knows the history think, never mind be certain, a state would have prevented the latest Churban?
- Not to mention the actual jokers involved…
- Private, decentralized self-defense would be cheaper in both blood and money, as explained earlier.
- Who’s “We”?!
- Hre’s an alternative connection between the two days.
