כך היא דרכה של תורה, פת במלח תאכל ומים במשורה תשתה ועל הארץ תישן וחיי צער תחיה ובתורה אתה עמל אם אתה עשה כן אשריך וטוב לך אשריך בעולם הזה וטוב לך לעולם הבא.
A tip for ובתורה אתה עמל:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
Wiktionary: The oldest English-language use of the proverb has been found in […] a slightly different form: ” […] if you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn.
Remember “זכרנו את הדגה”?
I would add: “If you teach him how to live without the fish you do him an even better turn…“
Better just stick to plain bread: פת במלח תאכל…
