Was RYT “disagreeing” for the sake of distancing people from the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s general bad influence (Brachos 63a)? No. Only Rabbi Shach was devious enough for that.

Did he hate the mitzvah of Tefillin? The “Meisis Rabbi” hated a great many mitzvos, but there’s no evidence for this one.

Maybe Rabbi Teitelbaum fell for Shaul Berlin‘s “Besamim Rosh” fraud. The Besamim Rosh (another Navi Sheker) says a Ba’al Keri should not wear Tefillin.

Simple halacha I see unobserved.

“Judaism” includes health. “Health” is intangible and unmeasurable, however. Saving study time motivates more: A colon less bent is less time spent. When the human plumbing anatomy is unbent, gravity can do its job. (“|” angle, not “>”; read a health book).

Sitting cross-legged on a hole in the ground is best, including for Tznius. If using a modern toilet, use a stool to raise your feet (or get Squatty Potty®). At least put one foot on the other thigh (whatever’s easier for using the left hand, Shulchan Aruch O.C. 3:10). If you can dress in robes and construct facilities like in Persia, even better.

And the older you are, the healthier and the more time saved, avoiding prunes, etc.

Also, the easier to evacuate, the easier in general (the diet matters less). Shulchan Aruch O.C. 3:9:
