Truth is, it’s not new. I don’t recall where but I definitely saw this exact claim made several times, many months ago, maybe right in the beginning. It didn’t even register because it made no sense as an excuse.
As someone on social media commented:

So, for those who haven’t been paying attention, that is how much regard “they” have for Jewish and Israeli life and well-being. Even if we reject this excuse, the fact remains they still think it absolves them (And “they” includes the regime’s evil stenographers, who took that down without a beat, without request for clarification, without anything else. So unfathomably corrupt are their souls, that they didn’t even think to suggest that honest remark might not go down so well. Of course, the media didn’t report the Shemini Atzeres pogrom in real-time either, as commanded, because the presstitutes aim solely to serve and protect; act as guard dogs safeguarding democracy for the people’s benefit).

When people show you who they are, believe them!
