Rule: Once you reveal your position (especially what you are willing to settle for), it becomes politically impossible for foreign statesmen to do or announce anything more favorable than what “your nation” supposedly seeks.
Israeli politicians “never miss an opportunity” to hamstring Israeli allies, as Netanyahu did to Trump, for instance.
