… טומטום ואדרוגינוס חייבין מספק ויתעטפו בלא ברכה. (פירוש טומטום לא נודע אם הוא זכר או נקבה ואדרוגינוס יש לו זכרות ונקבות)…
M. B. idem 8:
זכרות ונקבות — והוא ג”כ ספק זכר או נקבה ועיין בארצות החיים שהביא ראיה מכמה מקומות דפסקינן כן להלכה דהוא בגדר ספק ולא כמ”ד דהוא בריה בפני עצמו.
The nub is not merely that the Mishna Berurah decided to comment sub voce.
It is clear the M. B. is carefully attentive to the choice of words in the parens above and feels the need to tell the reader not to take the language too seriously.
This, in spite of the fact the translation is a tale told by a near-idiot, meant for the masses reviewing the Shulchan Aruch every 30 days (and paskening straight from the simple meaning, which was decried by various Achronim), no more.
